| About Anton
Filmed over nine months with a very small, privately sourced budget,
ANTON has been a labour of love for all involved. From humble origins
with an initial investment of just €5,000 the team battled
through very tough filming conditions and with the help of a great many
people have created a film that is competing on national and
international stages, with screenings at the Marche du Film at the
Cannes Film Festival, the Galway Film Fleadh, the Boston Irish Film
Festival, the Foyle Film Festival and the American Film Market. The
film was picked up by Eastwest Distribution and was released across
Ireland for a three week run in October 2008.
The film was nominated for three Irish Film and Television Academy awards for Best Supporting Actor (Gerard McSorley), Best Cinematography (Fergal O Hanlon) and Best Original Score (Anna Rice). Directed by Graham Cantwell Starring Gerard McSorley, Anthony Fox, Laura Way and Ronan Wilmot Screenplay by Anthony Fox Produced by Patrick Clarke and Anthony Fox Anton is an explosive and gripping thriller inspired by true events. After time spent at sea, Anton O’Neill returns to find that 1970's Ireland is a radically different place to the one he left behind. Northern Ireland is in flames, and civil unrest has spilled south of the border to his beloved home in County Cavan. Blinded by hatred and misguided patriotism Anton is led into an illicit world of violence and is forced to choose between his family and his country. Hunted and on the run, he is drawn into a shocking battle of wills with the law and his former accomplices, ending in an explosive showdown in which he must risk everything to protect the woman he loves. foxglovefilms@gmail.com |
